Solar panels can cover 40 percentage of our power consumption

Taking big steps is what it’s all about when you are aiming for climate neutrality. FK Distribution’s new solar panel plant coupled with a state-of-the-art battery solution delivers green power covering up to 40 per cent of the company’s power consumption. That’s a big step in FK Distribution’s journey towards climate neutrality.

The company’s CEO, Lasse Ingemann Brodt, had every reason to smile when he when he welcomed the guests attending the ceremony to mark the inauguration of the new plant. At first glance, the solar panels take up less space than you would expect for 5,400m2, but half of them are installed on the roof of FK Distribution’s facility in Høje-Taastrup outside Copenhagen!

“As Denmark’s largest distributor of printed matter, we have a responsibility to do the right thing, and we’re constantly looking for ways to run our business in a more sustainable manner and keeping our environmental footprint as small as possible,” he says.

“We’re always looking for ways to run our business in a more sustainable manner,” says CEO Lasse Ingemann Brodt.

Marie-Louise Lemgart, who is chief consultant at the Høje-Taastrup local authority, called the project a source of inspiration for commercial businesses taking part in the green transition, and Project Manager Steen Olesen of the COWI Group noted that every green kWh is another step towards reducing Denmark’s dependence on natural gas.

“We wanted the best solar panels and the best technology available in Europe. It’s important that we create value along our entire value chain and not just through our investment at this property,” says North Media CFO Kåre Wigh, noting that the steep surge in energy prices is also sharply reducing the repayment time.

The plant will be complete when the container-sized state-of-the-art battery solution is delivered in August. FK Distribution has already made the decision to have a similar-sized solar panel plant installed at its site in Tilst near Aarhus.
