History

North Media was founded in 1965 by Richard Bunck and continues to be managed and operated according to a strong set of core values based on consumer focus, accountability, quality, fairness and positive aggressiveness.

North Media’s story

North Media was founded in 1965 in Copenhagen with a vision to create access to and convey information between retail and consumers.

Today, almost 60 years later we continue to provide customers to our customers – whether the product, service or store is physical or digital. We do this so well and efficiently, that our activities are among the leading in Denmark.

  • 2024 Activities

    • FK Distribution acquires the software company Avious’ activities.
  • 2023 Expansion and acquisitions

    • North Media acquires Svensk Direktreklam (SDR).
    • BostadsPortal opens an office in Stockholm.
    • BoligPortal acquires the remaining 49% of Boligmanager.
  • 2022 Acquisitions

    • Boligportal A/S acquires 51% of Boligmanager ApS.
    • North Media becomes part of Nasdaq Copenhagens Mid Cap-segment.
  • 2020 Cooperation

    • FK Distribution and Deutsche Post enter a cooperation where FK Distribution assists Deutsche Post in their transition of replacing plastic packaging with sustainable packaging.
    • As of May 1, North Media sells Helsingør Dagblad, Lokalavisen Nordsjælland and Hovedstadens Mediehus to Jysk Fynske Medier.
  • 2019 First time profits

    • North Media Online achieved a profit for the first time.
    • Boligportal.dk mediates 100,000 rental properties annually.
    • Lead Supply wins the Børsen Gazelle award in Central Jutland.
    • Bekey now cooperates with 67 municipalities in Denmark and Norway.
  • 2018 Ownership change

    • At the general meeting held April 2018 Mads Dahl Andersen is elected to the Board of Directors and takes over as Chairman.
    • Richard Bunck, founder of North Media steps down as Chairman to be Vice chairman of the Board of Directors instead.
    • North Media Online acquires the remaining shares in BoligPortal.dk ApS, making it a 100% owned subsidiary.
  • 2017 Digital leases

    • On January 1, 2017, North Media Aviser took over five local newspapers in the capital and bought yet another at the end of 2017.
    • PostNord announces that effective from January 1, 2018, they will reorganise their production model, which will entail a large influx of customers to FK Distribution.
    • North Media Online’s Job unit launches the branding module Brandero. The unit Lejebolig launches the digital lease.
    • North Media Online sells håndværker.dk A/S to Imentor A/S.
  • 2016 Investments

    • 25% of Danish households have chosen to sign up for NejTak+ (658,000).
    • Several editions of Søndagsavisen as well as the ownership share of Vestsjællandske Distriktsblade are sold.
    • North Media Aviser intensifies its strategic focus on Copenhagen and acquires five local papers in Copenhagen.
    • North Media Online invests in Lix Technologies ApS and Lead Supply ApS.
    • 50% of the entrance doors in Copenhagen use Bekey and 25% of the Danish municipalities use Bekey.
  • 2015 North Media A/S celebrates its 50th anniversary

    • North Media A/S celebrates its 50th anniversary on April 2.
    • North Media introduces a new segment structure: FK Distribution A/S, North Media Aviser A/S, North Media Online A/S and Bekey A/S.
    • NejTak+ reaches 550,000 registered households. 2,3 million mailboxes are visited weekly.
    • Byggestart.dk changes its name to håndværker.dk.
  • 2014 Three milestones in one year

    • NejTak+ reaches 300,000 registered households.
    • The Bekey system is now also used in Sweden and Norway.
    • minetilbud.dk achieves a digital breakthrough with more than 900,000 downloads of their app.
  • 2013 Household choice

    • North Media acquires eight local newspapers in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg.
    • FK launches NejTak+, enabling each individual household to choose which advertising material they wish to receive.
    • BoligPortal launches the concept “sell-it yourself”.
  • 2012 Job universe

    • North Media buys Byggestart and Henttilbud to convey private construction jobs online.
    • MinReklame.dk is integrated into FK Distribution A/S.
    • Ofir develops its job universe, which is the largest network media on the market advertising job vacancies.
  • 2011 FK delivers the best result in the company’s history

    • FK delivers the best result in the company’s history.
    • North Media sells the remaining 33% of the shares in Gratistidningar i Sverige AB.
    • Søndagsavisen.dk and minreklame.dk merge to further benefit from having 500,000 unique users visiting the websites and using the services.
  • 2010 Ownership

    • At the annual general meeting on April 23, it was decided to change the company’s current legal structure, changing the group’s name from Søndagsavisen a-s to North Media A/S.
    • In the new structure, the group’s parent company becomes the holding company for the group’s operating companies, apart from some administrative group functions. The actual activities are separated into individual subsidiaries.
    • FK’s improvement projects lead to significant cost savings.
    • Bostadsportal.se is launched as a sister portal to Boligportal.dk.
    • Bekey further develops and product matures a key system, to facilitate access to locked entrances for distributors etc.
  • 2009 Søndagsavisen shuts down four editions in Jutland

    • Søndagsavisen shuts down four editions in Jutland due to a massive drop in the advertising market. Søndagsavisen’s circulation is thereby reduced from approx. 2,1 million copies to approx. 1,4 million copies.
  • 2008 Launching Søndagsavisen.dk

    • Søndagsavisen.dk is launched in October.
    • Norsk Avisdrift AS is sold effective from October 23 and Gratistidningar i Sverige AB is sold effective from November 30.
    • Forbruger-Kontakt enters into a two-year distribution agreement with both Dansk Supermarked and Coop.
    • BoligPortal.dk is now owned 100% by Søndagsavisen.
  • 2007 New marketplace in Denmark

    • Søndagsavisen and Ofir launch a job strategy under the title “Together we do the job”. The goal is to create Denmark’s largest marketplace for advertising job vacancies.
    • The market for nationwide retail advertising is not developing as expected, and therefore Søndagsavisen’s circulation is reduced. The newspaper now has a circulation of 2,2 million copies distributed among 15 regional editions.
    • To strengthen the synergies between the newspaper and the internet, the executive board is expanded with a director in charge of what is collectively referred to as the group’s Media-Online activities.
  • 2006 Housing portal and circulation record

    • Søndagsavisen A/S increases its ownership in Helsingør Dagblad to 57%.
    • Søndagsavisen A/S enters the housing market launching Plushandel www.plushandel.dk which is 50% owned by Søndagsavisen A/S.
    • Søndagsavisen’s circulation increases by 400,000 copies to 2,5 million per week.
  • 2005 Record sales and purchases

    • Søndagsavisen is relaunched and circulation is increased with 600,000 copies to more than 2,1 million per week.
    • Søndagsavisen A/S reaches record revenue and record profit.
    • On July 1 Ofir acquires 50% of the share capital in MDA Holding ApS, which operated BoligPortal.dk. At the time the portal was one of the market leaders providing rental housing in Denmark.
  • 2004 OFiR acquires the remaining shares in MatchWork World Wide A/S

    • OFiR acquires the remaining shares in MatchWork World Wide A/S (MatchWork), making MatchWork a 100% owned subsidiary in the group. MatchWork’s employees are moved to OFiR’s premises in Gladsaxe.
    • S-Post expands distribution in Nyköping/Oxelösund.
  • 2003 Søndagsavisen A/S sells NorPost AS

    • Søndagsavisen A/S establishes a joint distribution company with Den sydvestjydske Venstrepresse A/S.
    • Søndagsavisen A/S sells NorPost AS and the group’s activities in Norway now exclusively include newspaper and distribution operations in Trondheim.
    • OFiR acquires the majority of shares in MatchWork World Wide A/S.
    • Gratistidningar i Stockholm AB buys the local newspaper Smé-Journalen and expands its coverage of local newspapers and distribution to also include the Södra Mälaren area south of Stockholm.
    • Gratistidningar i Stockholm AB changes its name to Gratistidningar i Sverige AB.
  • 2002 Søndagsavisen A/S and Berlingske Lokalaviser A/S establish a Joint Venture

    • Søndagsavisen A/S and Berlingske Lokalaviser A/S establish a Joint Venture, Dansk Distributions Center A/S, which will manage the distribution in Copenhagen.
    • Alfo Distribution A/S, which is owned 100% by Søndagsavisen takes over Reklameservice Randers A/S.
    • Søndagsavisen A/S enters into an agreement to establish a joint distribution company with H.A. Grafisk Reklame A/S.
    • Søndagsavisen A/S enters into an agreement to establish a joint distribution company with A/S Svendborg Avis.
    • Søndagsavisen A/S takes over the activities from DTD København A/S.
    • Norsk Avisdrift A/S ceases newspaper publications in Oslo.
    • NorPost AS increases its ownership share in NorPost Trondheim AS to 100%.
    • The groups newspaper publications in Stockholm are expanded to cover Greater Stockholm with a total circulation of over 930,000 copies.
    • The newspaper companies in Stockholm merge into one company, Lokaltidningen Mitt i Stockholm AB.
  • 2001 Søndagsavisen is published in four regions in Skåne

    • Søndagsavisen is published in four regions in Skåne with a total circulation of 264,000 copies.
    • Søndagsavisen a-s increases its ownership share in NorPost AS to 100%.
    • Søndagsavisen a-s increases its ownership share in Norsk Avisdrift AS to 100%.
    • The newspaper publication Søndagsavisen in Skåne and Stockholm is discontinued.
  • 2000 Internet activities and international expansion

    • Søndagsavisen a-s’ internet activities are separated into an independent subsidiary: OFiR.com A/S.
    • OFiR establishes sales offices and go online in Sweden, Germany and France.
  • 1999 Søndagsavisen a-s acquires share capital

    • Acquisition of 52,19% of shares in Norsk Avisdrift AS.
    • Søndagsavisen a-s increases its ownership share in NorPost AS to 54,95%.
    • Søndagsavisen a-s acquires the entire share capital in Søndagsavisen International AB.
  • 1998 Expansion in Sweden and Norway

    • Acquisition of 100% of the share capital in KompassNål AB (S-Post AB) in Southern Sweden.
    • Acquisition of 35% of the shares in NorPost AS, Norway – the co-owner of NorPost Trondheim AS.
  • 1997 The free newspaper was published in Stockholm

    • Cooperation with Århus Stiftstidende regarding free newspapers and distribution.
    • Avisen is published in Stockholm with a circulation of 790,000 copies.
  • 1996 Søndagsavisen A/S was listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange

    • Søndagsavisen A/S is listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
    • Introduction to the internet.
    • Publication in Esbjerg in cooperation with Esbjerg Ugeavis A/S.
    • Søndagsavisen International AB is established in cooperation with Tidnings AB, Marieberg.
  • 1995 Jutland

    • Publication of Søndagsavisen in Jutland with a total circulation of over 1,3 million newspapers.
  • 1991 Funen

    • Søndagsavisen is published on Funen.
  • 1990 Søndagsavisen and Forbruger-Kontakt became part of Søndagsavisen A/S

    • The first cooperation regarding distribution of free newspapers was established.
  • 1989 Greater Copenhagen

    • Søndagsavisen covers all of Greater Copenhagen.
  • 1977 Copenhagen

    The first edition of the free newspaper Søndagsavisen is published in Copenhagen.

  • 1971 FK: Nationwide in Denmark

    • Forbruger-Kontakt became nationwide to all urban areas in Denmark.
  • 1965 The founder
