BoligPortal provides moving-in/moving-out inspections free of charge

The website for rental housing, BoligPortal, provides its customers with a free tool to conduct digital moving-in/moving-out inspections. This will strengthen BoligPortal’s position in the market, attract more customers and provide more reliable data.

In an effort to get even more tenants and landlords to use the services of its website, Denmark’s largest rental portal is launching a new free digital service that makes light work of the moving-in/moving-out inspections at the beginning or end of a tenancy. It is BoligPortal which is once again looking to free features to attract more customers to use its services to find their new rental home.

In June, BoligPortal launched another free digital feature that produces an electronic rental contract, which tenants and landlords can sign online with NemID. According to the company’s CEO, Anders Hyldborg, there is stiff competition to be the portal that connects tenants with their future home. BoligPortal has over fifty per cent of the market and competes with companies like Lejebolig.dk. Therefore, the latest service is intended to attract more customers in a bid to strengthen BoligPortal’s market position. In the past, BoligPortal charged its customers to use its tool to conduct digital moving-in/moving-out inspections.

“We are hoping to strengthen our current position as Denmark’s largest rental platform by offering landlords another digital service. Offering the service free of charge, we are hoping to become the preferred partner of even more landlords,” says Anders Hyldborg, CEO of BoligPortal.

BoligPortal’s digital moving-in/moving-out inspections include a number of steps that landlords and tenants follow when a tenancy changes tenants. The digital tool allows you to take photos to document the condition of the tenancy, and the parties can sign when they agree on the condition of the home.

Hoping for strong growth
The digital tool to conduct moving-in/moving-out inspections was originally launched three years ago, and the CEO says that it is currently used to conduct “tens of thousands” of inspections a year. Over the past two years, BoligPortal has been working on a brand-new platform based on a new technology, which has made it possible for BoligPortal to update its digital services.

“We hope to see a significant increase in the number of digital moving-in/moving-out inspections and that the relationship between tenants and landlords will be strengthened,” says the CEO. “Offering the service free of charge, we’re hoping to become the preferred partner of even more landlords.”

Anders Hyldborg says that the launch of the digital rental contract led to an immediate doubling of the number of rental contracts signed through BoligPortal. He hopes that, likewise, the number of digital moving-in/moving-out inspections will double with the new updated service – preferably within the first month. “We created more matches by making the rental contract more accessible. These are the same mechanisms that we hope will lead to a surge in the number of moving-in/moving-out inspections,” he says.

Although BoligPortal launched two free digital services in the course of a few months, the company collects revenue from tenants who have to pay to access the contact details of the homes they find in searches on the portal. Landlords may also pay to have their ads promoted on the website. BoligPortal also receives commission from partners when customers opt in to receive electricity and/or broadband via the digital rental contract and/or moving-in/moving-out inspection. “When more people use the features, we also get access to data that helps us customize our products,” explains Anders Hyldborg. BoligPortal has more than four million visitors every year and, according to Anders Hyldborg, brokered more than 100,000 new homes last year.
